Brake lights not working, but turn signals do. | CJ

Since your turn signals work but the brake lights don't, I would check your brake light switch and make sure its ok. Check that its getting juice with your meter. There should only be 3 wires that you want, one going from the fuse box to the brake light switch, the one going from the brake switch to the turn signal switch, and the one going from the turn signal switch to the tail lights.

Check the wire from the brake switch (follow it to the plug at the column). Check the wire right before the plug then after. If you have power through the plug and no power on the Lt green wire (column side of the plug) then the problem is the wire harness inside the column or the turn signal switch.

Here is what you need. You have to run a new wire from the center light to the brake light switch. There are 2 wires at the switch, one from a fuse which should have 12v power (maybe only when the key is on) & the other will get 12v (maybe only when the key is on) when the pedal is pushed in. You need to splice the new wire into that one.

I just purchased a new CJ7 and noticed it didn't have any brake lights. I checked the brake light switch and found that the pink wire coming off the switch wasn't connected to anything. The plug has been cut off. The steering column has been replaced at some point and there is no plug on it for...

picked up another 79 cj5 with full fiberglass body was a project that is almost done anyway their where no lights so i got headlights and tailights have them wired up and working problem is the brake lights does anyone have a wiring diagram can;t figure out how to hook them up the wiring in this thing is a mess and there is no plug for the brake light switch it is a two prong switch i thoght ...

So, I say, start tracing the wires, and see where power stops with the pedal pushed. Not sure on your Jeep, but an old Ford mech told me the wire from the brake switch runs up into the steering column to the turn signal switch, and emergency flasher switch. Must find a wiring diagram! Probably wasn't much help, but maybe it'll help some.

The brake & turn wire for either side does both and it works thru the brake light switch & turn signal switch. if you follow the diagram from the rear lights you should see 1 wire common to both LH & RH sides, that would be the running (tail) lights. The other wires (1 from each side) I think goes to the turn switch.

Just picked up a 89 and I need help. Converted to propane so it's stand alone everything and factory harness has been deleted. I need the wiring diagrams to the turn signals, high beams, and brake lights for now. I need to know what color goes to what coming out of the column. I've tried Google and it gives me everything but what I need.

On the diagram you will see breaks in the lines and colors/ info listed (the colors continue thru the writing) the writing is how I knew what color a wire is it was on the diagram originally. I emailed the 2 halves to the office store, had them blown up, I taped them together (correct overlappage) then they laminated it for me.
