I have switched seat and HCU unit with a friend's 2006 GL1800 whose heat is working fine. My seat heats up on his bike, but his seat does not heat up on my bike. My HCU unit works fine on his bike, but his HCU does not resolve the heating issue on my bike. So all components are functional on my bike, the seats, the grips, the HCU unit.
