Questions about series/parallel wiring on a Jazz Bass ...

I recently wired up my Squier Classic Vibe 70's Jazz bass with a series/parallel push pull pot. I followed the diagram on Seymour Duncan's website (except I "flipped" some of the wiring so series would be when the pot was down and parallel when the pot was up). I now have a slight hum when in series and a louder hum when in parallel.

The wiring will now show that they are in fact wired across each pickup. If you have a switch to go between parallel and series, that switch will simply move the negative wire from one pickup away from ground, and over to the hot wire of the other pickup (said hot wire also being switched away from the output jack at the same time).

A series/parallel/single coil switch is a better option in my opinion. P-bass sound is due to many things, only one of them being that the pickups are wired in series. Jazz bass pickups wired in series won't sound like a P-Bass. The reason more guitar companies don't put a bunch of wiring options on thier instruments is because they don't need to.
