Amp wiring is very specific to the amp Mfg. I am running a 4 ga line from the battery into the cabin and fuse/split to 2 x 8 ga for my 2 amps. My Fosgates require 8 ga. Again each time you step down in gauge, you fuse that line. I am also running a home run (electrical wiring term) for an additional +12v from the battery.

You can test the circuit up to and including the gauge by unplugging the wire from the sending unit, the tank should go to empty, ground the wire it should go to full. On a 12v system, grounding a test light lead and connecting the probe to the sending unit wire should cause the gauge to read approximately 1/2 a tank.

The gauges receive their signal from the PCM's CCD BUS system, so it's all data from the PCM to the gauges. Behind the gauge cluster, there are two connectors - the right side connector has the CCD Bus wires in it - they should be white/black and violet/brown in pins 1 & 2.
