Ford Super Duty Charging System Diagnosis and Repair

04 F350 6.0 single alterntor. I am attempting to straighten out the hacked up wiring on my alternator which prevailing wisdom says is what probably took out my FICM. I finally found the correct alternator plug ($50.00 at the local ford dealer) but need to know which wire goes to which pin.

Each part ought to be placed and linked to different parts in specific manner. Otherwise, the structure will not work as it should be.

Double check your diagram, cuz one to the battery and one to the guage doesn't sound right. There should be a fatter one to the battery, one from a fuse and one to the pcm if I remember right. It's been a while since I've looked at a 6.0 charging system, but I'm pretty sure the voltage regulator is not in the alternator.

Ford Alternator Wiring Diagram This is the diagram of every components in the alternator. It is a diagram for the alternator in a Ford Focus (see also Ford Focus Repair Manual ), Ford Escort, Ford F-100, Ford Taurus, Ford Mustang, Ford Model T, Ford GT40, Ford Thunderbird, Ford Shelby Cobra and other Ford cars that use the similar alternator.

With an OEM alternator (though see #14 in our Tips), use not less than 4 gauge wire. With something bigger, go bigger. Many use our 1/0 wiring (about the size of your thumb) for this task. Think about augmenting the battery interconnect wire as well. We offer a 4/0 wire for this task.

After swapping in a new alternator, the voltage slowly dropped from 11.8 volts down to about 10.6 volts; so the new alternator didn't seem to be charging at all. When we got home I was relatively sure I got another bad alternator from autozone so I replaced it again under warranty, although its still not charging.

Attached is the wiring diagram for the single alternator on a 6.0L. As you can see, the Orange w/ Light Blue wire (A circuit) goes directly to the battery through a fusible link, so it should have battery voltage at all times. The Light Green w/ Red wire (I circuit) goes to the Instrument Cluster.
