Solder as normal and now that completes the hot and ground connections of your jack socket using braided wire. Safely re-fit into your guitar, and test. Providing your connections and solder joints are good, then you shouldn't have to worry about your jack socket for a long time indeed.

The photo above shows how you would wire both jacks for MONO use. Note that lug #1 on the stereo jack has no wire soldered to it. In this configuration, both the mono and stereo jacks could be used on a cigar box guitar with a standard mono amp cord. Once installed no one would be able to tell that it is actually a stereo jack.

Diagram #13 shows a typical mono jack and how it should be connected. Diagram #14 shows how to wire a stereo output jack to turn on an onboard power source (battery) when a 1/4" mono plug is inserted. This works by using the "ring" connector of the stereo jack to complete the ground side of the active onboard circuit when the plug is inserted.

A mono jack is suitable for most guitars; a stereo jack can be used for stereo wiring, or to enable onboard active electronics when a 1/4" mono plug is inserted. Choose the long thread jack for guitars and basses that have a thick top or control plate.
