Subaru Alternator Plugs

The Subaru alternator plug functions as a trigger to turn the alternator on (via the battery light on the dash) and senses battery charge to determine how much power to output. It's good to replace the connector when you replace or update the alternator because old alternator plugs can lead to a bad connection.

On the 90-94 harness there are 3 wires in the connector and a large white wire that goes to the post on the alternator. Pictured below is an illustration for a 95' alternator but the idea is very similar. The 3 wires at the connector: Large white to Battery +, yellow to Ignition ON, and Black/White to charge indicator light at the dash. Summary:

Cut it off with a few inches of the harness wire included, and then wire it into the harness on your car. (I believe Subaru used the same standard arrangement of 3 wires, and the same colors, for pretty much all of 2000-2009.) The third wire on the plug is the control line for turning off the alternator when there is minimal electrical load, lights off, cabin blower off, etc to supposedly save fuel. Sorry I'm typing this from an iPhone so don't have wiring diagrams I can view to help any further.
